Von Deepti:

I met Ewald in 1988 as a very young student of architecture, visiting to see tensile structures in Germany for a month. He graciously hosted me for a week, took me to the University with him and showed me around.
Out of my home for the first time, I was quite home sick. He made me his Indian daughter, and took me in his lap to watch TV, something for which he chided me for decades to come. Being in two different continents, we met very few times over the years but we always stayed in each others' hearts. Each time we met I received the same love from him and Christa. When I visited him in 2007, knowing their love for good food, I brought spices from India so that I could cook an Indian meal for them. Due to my study of engineering in tensile structures, Ewald gifted me his wonderful book and signed it as - with love and respect to me. I was absolutely overwhelmed.
whenever we met, he served his best wines and his special cocktails and we had endless conversations over drinks.
He was a true gentleman, he would take my coat if we went for dinner, and would make sure my train took off when he dropped me, before going back. At the same time, he was happy to take a few bites from my plate as a father.
He was a perfectionist. His drawings, though hand drafted, were superior to any computer aided drawings, but he had no pride and was very humble.
He was the best possible host. Once he was busy, so Benjamin and Brigitte picked me up, and insisted on taking me to lunch only to a very fancy place "because I was with the Bubners" That lunch at Shalke 4 was quite special.
I can go on and on about my memories of him, and with him, but It is not possible to put down in words, what I felt for him, still feel for him.
He shall be in my heart as my German father as long as I shall live. 💕🥰🙏🏻
